Marketing to Silver Surfers

Marketing to Silver Surfers

Recently my elderly father bought himself a new mobile.  He strode, sorry wrong verb, he’s old.  He shuffled nervously, into a gleaming temple where products aren’t so much on show as implied by bright colours and a lot of chrome.  His entrance appeared to provoke a tangible sense of horror in the youthful sales assistants, three of whom managed to get away leaving one bewildered young man facing the slightly wary, watchful but relatively innocent and wrinkly face in front of him.

How to Merge Two Fields in SalesForce

SalesForce is a great crm to keep track of all your leads and contacts. Being a web guy my favourite part is an easy to use “web to lead” forms.

A common problem with the forms though is what about when you want to have multiple fields on the form but only one field within SalesForce i.e. on the form have fields for “first name” “last name” but then on a report export or email blast have a field with “first name last name”.

Rip-Off Report Not Banned from Google

Revision

It appears there was a third option here which I didn’t consider. It’s been reported by some reliable industry sources that Rip-Off report .com was de-listed through webmaster tools meaning that someone with access to their account requested to be de-listed.

What’s a QR Code and How Do I Make One?

QR Codes are images are intended to be scanned by a smart phone camera, which hold graphically encoded information.QR code
It can only hold a single type of data so it’s often used to hold URL’s which then send people somewhere that they can get more information on something.

This is a great tool for marketters trying to link offline campaigns such as flyers, posters, etc. with online efforts and information.

There are a lot of high quality free tools to make QR codes so it’s not worth purchasing software to do the job.
To make QR codes yourself try visiting these free options:

http://qrcode.kaywa.com/

http://www.qurify.com/en/

When you insert the QR code into artwork try to keep it at least 1″ square with a few mm’s of white border. They are and can be made as large as you think a phone could scan. If you do plan on resizing the image to make it larger I would recommend a vector image (normally in pdf format) since it resizes without loosing resolution.

Hope this helps and if it did please share :-)

SES Conference Toronto 2011 Review

I attended the SES conference in toronto this week and found that while it would be very useful for certain demographic, it didn’t offer anything new for a seasoned SEO/SEM’r.

The talks were definitely well planned out and featured some great influential & knowledgeable speakers but they were all essentially “101″ type talks giving a basic overview of how search engines work, how in-links work, etc. This was perfect if you’re a
